During math today with my 7th grader I found the questions in the investigation lesson very unusual without answers in the answer key and it had me asking questions to ask “exactly” x number of kids and adults questions. Which the Holy Spirit unctioned me to look up who made saxon math…. this is what I found. I don’t expect math to be “christian” as in teaching scriptures. However, I was not expecting this to be the answer I found…
This got me thinking…
If its not written by a believer its going to be influenced by other spirits.
It’s either light or darkness there is no in between.
So when I looked it up and saw this… it got me really seeking the Lord’s wisdom.
My 5th grader uses the Good and the Beautiful homeschooling math curriculum.
I was already aware of the good and beautiful being written by a Mormon but I figured math is math and thats what we use it for…. but then it got me thinking again, if its written by someone who isn’t a believer in Jesus as Lord, then its being influenced by spiritual darkness.
This brought conviction to my heart for what we have been using it for.
I figured it’s just teaching the subjects but is it?
Remember our fight isn’t against flesh and blood but principalities and rulers of darkness..
I personally am not a fan of folklore stories. More and more I am realizing the evil in them. Its hidden. And it doesn’t seem bad. It makes us think on good things and they seem cute, but the Lord has been continually reminding me to think on things that are honest, lovely and TRUE things.
Finally, brethren/brothers, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest [noble], whatsoever things are just [right], whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report [commendable]; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippines 4:8
The good and beautiful curriculum isn’t true. Its good and beautiful sure, but it is influenced by spiritual darkness.
So is saxon math also influenced by spiritual darkness?
Read the description for yourself and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you concerning what to choose on homeschool curriculums.
